Adventure Sport Development Strategies

Adventure Musandam (Oman)

This project seeks to develop Musandam as an internationally significant adventure sports destination. Our work ranged from activity development and mapping through to concept design work of tourism infrastructure such as hotels, via ferrata and zip wires. Underpinning this work was extensive market research that has given us an unmatched understanding of the GCC adventure tourism market. We also developed detailed visitor projections and an investment business case based around an evidenced economic impact assessment. We specified a delivery model and action plan which is now in the process of being implemented.

The Adrenaline Gateway

Using adventure sport to transform perceptions of Pennine Lancashire and drive regeneration. This project aims to bring over 500,000 people a year to an area that had been blighted by post-industrial decline and a very poor image. The project also aimed to maximize local benefits by developing a supply chain through skills development, networks and micro business support.

Bike 2

The project is now well on the way to achieving its goals with the development of Britain's first urban Mountain Bike Centre and a related trail network, linked with Valley of Stone (heritage) and Panoptican (public art) projects. Further agreed investment includes over £2m for cycleways, c£1m in climbing facilities and £600k for further improvements to ski facilities. We developed the initial concept proposal and feasibility study and then a full development strategy.

Surfers Coast (NE Scotland)

The area around Fraserburgh and Peterhead has been seen as isolated and missing out on the economic benefits of the oil industry in nearby Aberdeen. The project aims to address this by positioning Scotland’s North East Coast as an internationally significant surfing and adventure sport destination and using this to drive local regeneration and economic development.

Surf 4

We developed a concept proposal and business case and linked this to a range of local initiatives designed to maximize the impact of the development and the benefits for local people.
